CARDIOLOGY UNIT (Medical Unit- I)
Cardiology unit presently located at the first floor in ward No. 4, comprising in total 20 nonpaying beds.
The paediatric cardiology unit of Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital, is the first and pioneer in Bangladesh. It started functioning back in 1988 to provide treatment, control and prevention of childhood cardiac problems and rheumatological diseases in children.
Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital was one of the main collaborative hospital of the pilot project for prevention and control of RF/RHD at the national level since 1989 (sponsored and supported by JICA & MOH-GOB) and played a vital role conducting studies and follow-up RF/RHD patients. The unit Head Professor Manzoor Hussain actively participated and contributed in policy making as a member of the national co-ordinating committee for prevention and control of RF/RHD in Bangladesh.
Apart from the non paying beds patients are also admitted in different paying wards and cabins under the cardiology units. There is a outdoor cardiac follow-up center where follow-up service are provided by trained doctor every day. Echocardiogram is done by specialist doctors of the unit. The unit is fully equipped with cardiac monitors, NIBP, incubator, Oxygen monitor, pulse oximeter, infusion pump, resuscitator, phototherapy machine ECG machine etc. Various research & studies were conducted by consultants and doctors of the unit and published and presented in various papers and seminars.
In near future the cardiac unit will be totally renovated with the establishment of interventional cardiac facilities and paediatric cardiac surgery.
