This unit deals with general pediatric illnesses with special attention to childhood endocrine and metabolic disorders. Majority of endocrine patients are admitted in this unit and complicated patients are also referred to our unit from other units for proper management and long term follow up. Endocrine disorders are important causes of morbidity and mortality of children in the world. The Western world has reduced morbidity and mortality by introducing screening programs and giving proper treatment. Cost is an important hindrance in research and management of pediatric endocrine problem in developing country like us. This unit also runs a follow up clinic. Patients of endocrine and metabolic disorders are followed up every Wednesday between 11 am to 1 pm by a senior Medical Officer supervised by Assistant Professor. Meticulous follow up is given specially in cases of congenital hypothyroidism and congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Patients of other endocrine disorders are also followed up adequately and appropriately according to need. Various researches on Endocrine diseases are conducted in this unit. The future plan is to start screening program for congenital hypothyroidism in this hospital, to establish a growth and weight management clinic.
